Mauro Brunelli and Anna Savini both have a long, rich heritage in farming in the famed wine district of Montalcino. Martoccia, their original farm, was 3 hectares and is located just below the ancient medieval Fortress of Montalcino. Their love for their land and respect for Montalcino traditions drive their passion for their work at Martoccia. Together with their son, Luca, they expanded the farm; and, today, their property covers 20 hectares, 6 of which are registered Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. The vineyards are 250 meters above sea level and face to southeast where they enjoy full sun exposure throughout the warm Tuscan days. In ancient fashion, olive groves and native forests cover the remainder of the property.
Luca Brunelli is the winemaker. “Poggio Apricale” paints an image of the hilltop where the sun bathes the fruit for maximum expression of fragrance and highest quality. The soil and climate of these lands produce Sangiovese grapes that are legendary for their quality, complexity and richness and which comprise the wine known around the world as Brunello di Montalcino.
