2013 Macchie Santa Maria Taurasi DOCG

  • Taurasi, the renown big red from Campania is commonly referred to as the 'Barolo of the South'. Winemaker Oreste De Santis crafted this legendary red wine from 20 year old vines 450 meters above sea level. Following fermentation and refinement in stainless steel tanks for 10 months, Oreste ages the wine for 20 months in oak botte and barriques. This elegant full-bodied red presents dark ruby red hues in the glass and delivers rich aromas of mature dark cherry on the nose. The wine will land softly on the palate with hints of black cherry, licorice and plum. The well-balanced tannins and acids will allow this wine to age for years. Drink now or hold. Best 2017-2025.

Enjoy this wine with roasted red meats, game, or aged cheeses. Best served at 65 F in a large format glass. Decanting for 2 hours prior to serving is recommended.
