2018 Unmaredivino Nerosmeraldo Cannonau di Sardegna DOC

  • Handcrafted from 100% Cannonau fruit grown in their vineyard in Sorso-Sennori. The vineyard faces the Gulf of Asinara, overlooking the sea at an altitude of about 300 meters (1000 feet). From this point you can also see Stintino and the Pelosa Beach, as well as the coast of Platamona and Marina of Sorso. Here the soil is marly with a good amount of clay. The good exposure to the always present wind, the altitude, and the strong temperature changes between night and day, guarantee the health of the grapes. The vineyard is on a soil scarce of water, and non-irrigated. The vines are worked by hand, with hoe and light milling under the rows. The vines were pruned in May, with only the best shoots selected. At the end of July, to favor exposure to the sun, a careful defoliation left the bunches well exposed to the light. The fruit was harvested by hand in early October.  After a soft pressing and subsequent destemming, the grapes remained in maceration in steel containers for 20 days with frequent pumping over. Immediately afterwards, around the first half of November 2018, the wine was moved to third or fourth passage Allier oak barriques where it rested for around 12 months during which it received repeated batonnage. Finally, the wine was prepared for bottling and rested in the bottle for 12 months before being put on the market.

This classic Cannonau shows Intense, bright ruby red. The nose is intense, fine and complex with spicy notes, red fruit, floral hints, all in an excellent fragrance. Distinctive olfactory notes typical of the Mediterranean scrub. On the palate the wine is harmonious, dry, slightly tannic, and savory.

Pairing: bold cheeses, roasted red meats, pasta with red sauces, game, and duck.
