2022 Macchie Santa Maria "Boschi a Lapio" Fiano di Avellino Riserva DOCG

  • One of Italy’s most ancient white varietals, along with Falanghina, Fiano was first noted in Roman times by Pliny the Elder. It is found in the southern region of Campania in the hills around the town of Avellino. The De Santis Family at Macchie Santa Maria Cantine has been cultivating Fiano for generations. Grandson, Oreste, has named this Fiano wine "Boschi a Lapio", meaning the woods around the territory of Lapio.

  • For this 2022 Riserva, Oreste selects the finest fruit from their estate vineyards, macerates with the skins at a temperature of 5°C for 48 hours, followed by fermentation of the must for 30 days at a fermentation temperature of 15°C.  Refinement consists of 6 months in stainless steel, 2 months in oak tonnau, and 4 months minimum in bottles.
  • This Riserva is crafted to display the longevity and complexity of the Fiano varietal.  The wine shows bright yellow hues in the glass, and lands on the palate with a hint of toasted hazelnuts and fresh, slightly acidic finish.

Serve this intense white at 55F in a large bowl glass to fully appreciate its aromas. Pair with fish first courses, shellfish, white meat dishes and young cheeses.
