This traditional Montefalco blend of Sagrantino, Sangiovese and Merlot is born in the Spacchetti Family vineyards on Colle Ciocco. The individual varieties were harvested in October, and after 3 weeks of maceration and fermentation in steel tanks, the wines were blended and aged in 25 hectoliter French oak barriques for 12 months and an additional 24 months in bottle prior to release. The result is a wine that shows intense ruby red in the glass with intensely complex aromas of red currents and aromatic herbs and warm spices. The long finish is an excellent balance of fruit and tannins.
Enjoy this wine with hearty pasta dishes, risotto with porcini mushrooms, pizza, and roasted red meats. Best served at 65F. It is very drinkable now, or cellar for 7-10 years.
