2012 Ornella Molon Raboso DOC

  • Raboso is an ancient native varietal known for its tannins and high acidity.  First mention in literature in 1679 (D'Agata), it was known as the "vin di viajo" or "wine of travel" for its resistance to disease, spoiling and its ability to age.

Ornella Molon's Raboso Piave is an intensely dark colored, full-bodied red of 100% Raboso fruit cultivated from the family vineyards near the Piave River, only 20 km from the Adriatic.  After harvest and maceration, Ornella and Giancarlo refine the wine for 24 months in French Oak barriques, 12 months in oak casks, and another 12 months in the bottle prior to release.  This Raboso Piave delivers spicy aromas to the nose of red cherries and mature berries.  The tannins and acidity provide a very dry finish with notes of pomegranates, black cherries and spices.

This wine is the perfect accompaniment with wild game and roasted red meats.  Serve at 65 F in a large format glass.  Drink now or age 8-10 years. Only 20 cases imported.
